According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of October 1, 2020, the number of payment cards reached 73.4 million. Compared to January 2020, this value increased by 7.4%.
A significant part of new cards (5.7%) is used for non-cash payments and to receive funds. This figure is primarily due to the coronavirus epidemic and the introduction of quarantine. Citizens have begun to use safer payment methods.
At the same time, almost 40% of all cards from which payment transactions were made were contactless. Compared to January 2020, this number has increased by 50%.
Experts note that the increased demand for non-cash payments is developing this payment system, which will further have a positive impact on the service of many companies. Even now, half of payment transactions in retail chains are already contactless, and in 2019 only a third of citizens expected so.
